12th of June 2012

This week we have been given our Briefs that we could use for our A2 coursework. Given all the briefs I was drawn mostly towards the music video. This is because I am very interested in music and studying during in GCSE would give me a slight advantage of the typical conventions involved. I felt that choosing this brief would allow me to fully explore the affects of music videos have and I felt the initial planning and construction would be interesting yet challenging. 

14th of June 2012

Thinking about my music video I have thought of a couple of ideas I could have for my music video, I want it to be based around my own personal interests and the music genre will be something more urban yet upbeat. I also took account of my resource audit and thinking about how I can use them to my advantage with my music video. I will be creating mind maps and researching to make sure I want to pursue the idea.  

21st of June 2012

This past week I have just been taking a look at the different types of music videos and looking at the different pathways I could go down. I have also started to do some research into music videos and what makes them successful and interesting. The next couple of weeks will consist of lots of analysis and looking at the different theories, conventions and existing products. This will give me a greater insight to what I want to do with my music video. I will also document any ideas and inspirations I have.

25th of August

Throughout this summer I focused on the analysis and the deconstruction of music videos. I felt this has really benefitted my understanding within the music genre I want to do and what makes their music videos successful. During the summer I have also looked at possible locations that I could use for my music video, and I have documented the location and taken a video to remind me of the complete location. Potential locations include trocadero in piccadilly circus and across Southbank. I have also briefly spoke to some potential stars for my music video based on their talent and skill. They have agreeed but I will have to ask them to send me clips of them auditioning for the roles.

11th of September

As I focused so much on the analysis and deconstruction of my music video I felt I have fallen slightly behind on the research. This means that I have to allocate more time to complete this. I will give myself a maximum of a werek and a half to complete it to make sure that I do not fall behind.

13th of September

At the moment I am having a bit of trouble understanding the Influences of music style and looking at how society at things which might influence my artist. I feel that it’s not clear what I am meant to research and not sure on how to approach the question. I asked my teacher and he says to look at my genre and how it is used in society. Being an urban culture it is very large and broad subject and I am finding it hard on how to put it down on word as it is so variated. I think I will have to go home and really think about the way to portray the urban culture and how it influences my chosen artist Example.

24th of September

I have finally finished all the components of research that I feel are important before constructing and planning for a music video. I feel confident now in what I am doing knowing all the information needed and what would make it effective. I have also finally came with an conclusion of the type of story my music video will take, it will have a mixture of narrative and performance base. Also I have confirmed the song I will choose is 'Changed the Way You Kissed Me' by Example. I am feeling confident going into the planning and construction of the video.

4th of October 

Going into my planning has really got me thinking about my music video in detail, and how much planning with dates times and people I am going to deal with. The research has taught me alot about music videos and I feel that my foundation knowledge will lead me to creating a professional and exciting music video. However my initial idea of having lots of people in one shoot is not going too well, Many people have lots of other obligations and dedications and I do not think I will be able to arrange a shoot that involves all of them. I have come up with an alternative idea of having my music video completely performance based and have different people in different locations but all wearing a sort of prop such as a fake moustache or something of the similar. This eliminates the need to doing a music video that has a large cast which would be very difficult to organize. 

9th of October

I have finally found a way around my problem of not being able to gather together all the dancers I would like at one time. The inspiration came to me from a video my teacher had showed the class called Here We Go Magic and it featured a man carrying a woman around and watching her dance. I thought this would be an interesting way of portraying separate dancers and having them in different locations. It will be a quirky and quite postmodern way to make my music video as it is unconventional and does not follow any of the lyrics.

15th of October

Finally getting onto the major parts of my planning I feel I have finally come up with my final pitch. I have started the designs and costumes and making final touches to my mood board. It has taken me a lot of time and effort but it will pay off when I begin to start filming as I will have good guidelines to follow by. I have also notified people of my music video and asked people to audition for my music video. Many people have sent me over YouTube videos and I am able to now do my final casting.

5th of November

Finally all the storyboarding and designing and health and saftey planning has been done and I am now ready to shoot my video. I have over run a tiny bit but I wanted to make sure my planning was suitable and ensure everything was right before I begin shooting. I have also finally made my final choses of actors and dancers and I believe they will be able to create the exciting and fun video I am aiming to shoot.

19th of November

I am getting particularly worried about my music video because I have found that I have not been able to shoot the video due to the weather, lighting and the unreliability of my actors/performers. They have been very unreliable in terms of attendance and I have to reschedule. However in terms of my digipacks and magazine ads, I have been able to produce adequate drafts so I know how my finalized product will look like. I am going to create another schedule and if my performers are being inadequate again I will have to consider changing my idea for my video. 

8th of December
Due to complications I have decided to change the idea for my music video slightly, it will feature a few dancer in it but it will not be the main concept. The new concept will involve a girl looking around for this new 'crew' and we will follow her around London and the audience will go on a  journey with her and will be more narrative than performance based. I will be shooting the video very soon.

19th December
I have finished shooting part of my video and I am in the process of going through the shots and seeing what is usable and what is not. I am also finalising my designs for my digipak and magazine ad's which I have to organsise a few more photoshoots for.

15th of January 
I am currently still in the process of editing my first draft for my music video and still learning how to use vegas properly which is becoming time wasting. However I have grasped the main concepts of how to use the program and beginning to make progress. Along side I have been making final editions of my digipak and adverts. I feel they are of a professional standard and are of high quality. They will be posted when they are ready.

18th of February
I have gained lots of feedback for my draft music video and are now making changes such as the continuity and flow of the music video. I think I feel the feedback I gained will help me improve and make my video of a much higher standard that will be appealing to my audience. The feedback for my final digipak and magazine ad were pleasing and I am satisfied with the results. I have also made lots of videos showing how I made my products which will help me in my evaluations.

2nd of March 
I have finally finished my music video after gaining more feedback from my second draft, there are very little changes that are going to be made and I am happy with it. I feel it expresses the artist in a accurate way and promotes his music and personality well. I am now starting my evaluations and reflecting back on my work. However I have been having difficulites with posting to blogger again and only just got it fixed. It has been a problem with time consistency however I was lucky enough to plan a contingency.
